Ground Fighters...Tough To Beat?
OK, so who hasn't seen the UFC Tournaments? Or the K1? etc., etc.?
As those of us who have seen these fight fests, it does seem that the winners are invariably ground fighters or those with a strong background in ground fighting.
My question to all of you is...As Itosu-kai Karateka, how would we handle an opponent with a background in say, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? Speed is an obvious answer, but what if we are taken to the ground as most fights tend to within seconds? What do we do now? Our legs are tied up, our hands/elbows are locked up...are we hooped?
Response1:Ireland - "I know just recently i have fought jiu jitsu fighters in a training environment and found that once you are taken down..thats it! If they are half decent at ground work you are a goner! I have already taken remedy to this and am starting jiu jitsu next week! Would be great to see some other input on this important matter!"

"Rule # 1 - Don't let yourself get into the situation where you are rolling around in the mud with one of these gentlemen! Not even for money!
Rule # 2 - If rule #1 fails Run!
Rule # 3 - If you can't run, there are no rules! Bite, scratch, spit, do what ever you have to to get out of there. Don't try to fight by Kumite Rules. They won't work in this situation! Growing up with two bothers who love to "Rassle", Groin shots are very effective! In fact, all most every technique you learned standing up can be applied in the horizontal position. Never say die!"
