Students...dedicated, but?
Here is the scenario. You have a promising student who puts all the effort you could ask for
into their training, and they show improvement consistently. But they resist the notion of etiquette and learning the styles' history; the more esoteric parts of Karate are either beyond their comprehension or something that they just don't care to learn about.
The question put to you is...is their willingness to learn the physical enough for you as a teacher without their willingness to learn the other? Your thoughts?

That's an easy one. Etiquette and Background Knowledge (history, lineage, etc.) have requirements at each rank level, just like the Waza and other "physical skills" of Karate. Without them you might study Karate, but you don't study Karatedo....
