Kihon Kumite - meaning "basic sparring". This is a paired,                                                      prearranged movement technique to get one used to                                   sparring with an opponent. The movements are                                             extremely effective when practiced diligently and                                          used in free sparring.

Yakushoku Kumite - a more advanced form of paired basics.

Ippon Kumite - "One point" sparring. Ippon was called when a strike                                   was delivered that simulated a "killing" blow. Ippon                                      Kumite is practiced to remind us not to become                                             complacent in our practice of sparring.

Jiyu Kumite - "Free" sparring.
