Below, you will find the meanings of many Japanese words you will encounter in ItosuKai Karate. During their training, Karate-ka will learn most if not all of these words.
Japanese Numbers:
Ichi  = One
Ni  = Two
San  = Three
Shi (Yon)  = Four
Go  = Five
Roku  = Six
Shichi (Nana)  = Seven
Hachi  = Eight
Ku (Kyu)  = Nine
Jyu  = Ten
Jyu Ichi = Eleven (ten and one)
Jyu Ni = Twelve (ten and two)
...
Jyu Kyu = Nineteen (ten and nine)
Ni Jyu = Twenty (two tens)
Ni Jyu Ichi = Twenty-one (two tens and one)
San Jyu Ichi = Thirty-one (three tens and one)
Shi Jyu Ichi = Forty-one (four tens and one)
...
Kyu Jyu Kyu = Ninety-nine (nine tens and nine)
Hyaku = One hundred
Sen = One thousand
Man = Ten thousand

Japanese Phrases

Arigato gozaimasu  -  Thank you.

Do itashimashite  -  You're welcome. Don't mention it.

Doumo Arigatou Gozaimashita  -  Japanese for "thank you very much". At the end of each class,                            it is proper to bow and thank the instructor and those with whom you've trained.

Gomen nasai   -  I'm sorry, excuse me.

Hajimemashite   -  How do you do? (When introduced to someone for the first time.)

Komban wa   -  Good evening.

Konnichi wa   -  Hello! Good day (after 10 am).

Ogen'ki desu ka  -  How are you? Are you in good spirits?

Ohayo gozaimasu   -  Good morning (used before 10 am).

Okagesama de   -  Fine, thank you.

Onegai Shimasu  -  Literally "I make a request". Means "I welcome you to train with me". Spoken                              to one's partner when initiating practice.

Oyasumi nasi   -  Good night (before bedtime).

Sensei, domo arigato gozaimashita   -  Sensei (teacher), thank you very much for what you have                                                            done. (Spoken by students at the end of class.)

Sayonara   -  Good-bye.
